Scottsdale Farms Interns

We are interested in helping the next generation of horticulturists and entrepreneurs thrive! Interning at Scottsdale Farms is an exciting and rewarding experience, offering unique opportunities for a number of career avenues in horticulture. We offer three paid internship opportunities each year, lasting approximately three months: Winter/spring and fall.

All interns will rotate through different departments within the Garden Center: Trees and shrubs, annuals, perennials, our vegetable garden and our plant production facility. There will be a few quizzes along the way on plant ID and other horticultural topics.

Winter/Spring: With the Winter/Spring internship, one gains the most experience and exposure. Interns will assist with plant production, including plugs and bare root roses, trees and shrubs. Planting and working in our one-acre vegetable garden is also part of the rotation. Learning about plant care, maintenance, fertilizers and customer sales and service round out the spring experience.

Fall: In fall, pansy production continues. Planting and caring for our fall vegetable garden, pumpkin patch, plant care and maintenance, our famous Enchanted Christmas Tree Forest and customer sales and service round out the fall rotation.

Housing is available on site for a nominal fee. A grocery store and restaurants are located within walking distance.

Additionally, interns demonstrating a commitment to excellence will be rewarded with a tuition bonus paid to the institution attended following the successful completion of the program.

What our Interns are saying:

“This internship taught me so much more than I anticipated. The I.D. tests helped me learn more about different plant varieties. I loved working in the garden. My experiences will be beneficial in my future horticulture career. “
- Denishia Singleton

“The staff was helpful, patient and supportive throughout my internship. I learned about plants, fertilizers, landscape installations, container arrangements, and more. It was a truly enjoyable experience and very helpful for my future.”
- Lauren Hermann

“This internship was an unforgettable experience. It was a well-rounded program that taught me far more about horticulture and business management than I could have imagined to learn in just ten, short weeks.”
-Paige Ritter

Internship periods and hours could be flexible based on our needs and the applicant’s needs. We are only interested in individuals who are self-starters and hard workers. An individual must show the desire and ability to work hard under all circumstances and weather.
