Most gardeners take a well-deserved break during the Winter months. Trees and shrubs do not need fertilizer until mid-March, when you begin to see new growth. Perennials may be cleaned up or left standing until Spring. It may be easier to find your herbaceous perennials if you leave them standing until late Winter to early Spring. You can prune dead branches on trees and shrubs during dormancy – this can be a welcome activity on one of our warm Winter days.
Fertilizing seasonal annuals will help them perform in Winter through Spring. Water soluble fertilizers provide nutrients that are immediately available to your plants’ roots. Fertilize with water soluble fertilizers weekly or bi-weekly. Organic granular fertilizers are naturally slow release products that don’t need to be applied as often. Synthetic granular fertilizers are another option. Follow package instructions when using any type of fertilizer to ensure healthy growth and blooms. Be sure to water your annual beds and containers if we don’t receive weekly rainfall.
If you are taking a break from outdoor gardening, consider adding some indoor plants to your living spaces. Houseplants help purify our air and add a sense of the natural world to our homes. Internet searches of the benefits of plants, both inside and outside, are teaming with information on improved mood and overall health. Plants certainly make me happy and I suspect that they will do the same for you. Our North Greenhouse is our new home for our houseplants. We have many combination containers that will enhance your indoor areas. We are also happy to create a custom arrangement just for you. Stop in and get inspired to add houseplants as home décor.
Soon, our Enchanted Christmas Tree Forest will open. Fresh trees are cut and arrive throughout the season to assure maximum freshness. We will have 5 varieties of trees, 2 feet to 13 feet tall. We will also be flocking Christmas trees. Many of our wreaths and garlands are made fresh daily. Our team also creates beautiful Christmas greenery arrangements every day. We are happy to create custom arrangements, wreaths and garlands just for you.
Be sure to stop in our barn and share in our Christmas cheer. Our themed trees are decked out in ribbons, bows, and ornaments. It’s a winter wonderland that should not be missed! Order your custom gift basket, floral arrangement and custom tied bows at the floral counter.
