October in the Garden

Fall is a season bursting with color! Take stock of your containers and beds and add some dramatic Fall interest with trees, shrubs and perennials. Fall is a great time to plant. Some trees that have great Fall color are Dogwood, Serviceberry, Ginkgo and Maples, including Japanese Maples. Shrubs like Oakleaf Hydrangea, Itea, Beautyberry, Burning Bush, and Fothergilla look beautiful in Fall. Many trees and shrubs also provide an ornamental branch structure that stands out during Winter months. Ornamental grasses have showy seedheads in Fall and provide graceful form in the landscape year-round. Annuals, like ornamental cabbage and kale, pansies, violas, snap dragons and small grasses and ivy give your containers and beds seasonal color and texture that will last through Winter. Fertilizing your annuals will reward you with vigorous plants and colorful blooms. Ask our associates to help you choose a fertilizer that suits your needs.
