May in the Garden

May is the month to plant warm season vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, beans, okra and eggplant. Herbs can also be planted now. Each year I plant my tried-and-true favorites and add at least one new variety. Over the years new favorites join the list of “must haves” for the kitchen garden.

Fresh fruit may be on your list to try this year. I highly recommend blueberries – they are one of the top fruit crops grown in the state of Georgia. We also have a wide assortment of apple, plum, peach, pear and Serviceberry trees that do well in our area. Strawberries, figs, blackberries and raspberries also grow well here. Freshly picked fruit is positively delicious. Ask our staff for tips on caring for these delicacies and you will have fresh fruit for years to come.

Our greenhouses are bursting with colorful annuals that we have grown for you. We’ve brought in many new varieties and have several inspirational containers planted throughout the property. Bright, seasonal color brings a sense of joy to outdoor living spaces like porches, patios and pools.

We are happy to help you choose plants or create custom arrangements that will be unique to your space. Containers will require periodic fertilizer for continuous blooms from Spring though Fall. We offer several different fertilizer options to help your plants thrive.

Scottsdale Farms is a one-stop shopping experience and we are fully stocked with trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and houseplants. We also have soil amendments, potting/container soil, mulch, fertilizers and products to help control weeds and pests. Stop in and let us help you make choices that suit your needs. We grow the majority of our plants on the growing side of our property so our inventory levels are kept high. Ask any outdoor staff member to help you locate the plant you’d like.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for timely updates. Our website lists numerous activities -register for a class or our garden club, book a landscape design consultation or ask a question. Feel free to tag us in your social media photos – we love to see how our plants look in your spaces.
